The business goal: Create a process that takes less time, can be audited, and supports ISO documentation standards for CAD file documentation.
The Process and Solution
I applied a “learn, build, review” process. I conducted field observations and initial user interviews to understand user needs and gather feedback about the current process for both the CAD artists and the documentation teams.
The solution involved changing the process for the CAD file storage and transfer. I worked with the CAD team to change their file save locations. Then the process was automated on the server to streamline format conversions, file name conventions, and submission to the documentation team.
I also created a library of often used components that could be copied / pasted into the CAD-derived PDF files via Illustrator. I created user guides that covered the most common concerns the documentation team cited and provided training for both teams.
